The Cowboys coaching staff looks to be almost complete as they have reportedly added a new name to the defensive backs room and are close to naming their quarterback coach.
Gee Scott of 710ESPN Seattle reports the Cowboys have brought on Kris Richard, formerly the defensive coordinator of the Seattle Seahawks, to coach their defensive backs and be the passing game coordinator.
I’m told that former Seahawks DC Kris Richard will be the Defensive Backs Coach & Passing Game Coordinator for the Dallas Cowboys. @710ESPNSeattle

Richard climbed the ladder with Seattle starting off in 2010 as an assistant defensive backs coach. A year later, he was the cornerbacks coach, and a year after that, he found himself in the role of secondary coach. He has been the defensive coordinator for the last three years before Seattle’s hire of Ken Norton Jr. left him looking for a gig.
In Richard’s time as defensive coordinator, the Seahawks were first, third and thirteenth in the NFL in points allowed.
Hiring the guy who has been coaching the Legion of Boom for the Seahawks sounds promising for the home team. A potential bonus: he’s just 38 years young, which could mean an infusion of young creativity to a coaching staff that has appeared in recent years to lack that element on both sides of the ball.
He’ll certainly have a nice group to work with after the Cowboys found a couple of starting corners in Jourdan Lewis and Chidobe Awuzie in last year’s draft and have a young core that ended the season playing quite well.
Speaking of which……..
Stephen Jones said today on the “Hangin’ With The Boys” podcast on DallasCowboys.com that the team is “Real close to gettin’ Kellen Moore penciled in as our quarterback coach”. I’m just here to report the facts, not offer commentary on the most valuable franchise in sports hiring a guy without NFL success as a player or any coaching experience on his resume to help groom their young QB who had some struggles last year.
Did that count as commentary?

I’m pretty stoked about Richard coming to Dallas as a potential heir to Marinelli. Wonder how he sees Byron – any chance they move him to CB and find a true FS?
