We may try to make this a weekly thing just to show you guys the many different ways the draft could shake out for the Cowboys.
Fanspeak.com has a system that lets you simulate the draft and pick for your team so KT and I ran it through once and made the picks for the good guys. Since we’re about 40 prospects in to studying this draft it’d be tough to go the full seven rounds for you guys just yet, so we’ll stick to the first two days of the draft.
Dueling mock drafts!
I (Jeff) went with Vita Vea, the massive and freakishly athletic nose tackle from Washington in the first round. He’ll make life easier on the all of the guys around him and let us see opposing offensive linemen end up on the ground a lot. And the Cowboys won’t do it because they don’t think the nose tackle matters. I haven’t actually watched Dallas Goedert yet but I trust my guy Dane Brugler who loves him. I’ll get to him soon. Michael Gallup is my guy at WR; I’m a huge fan. No weaknesses in his game. If he actually makes it to the third round we’re having a pizza party. And I’m serious. The Upset pizza party at Cici’s.
KT grabbed Denzel Ward—the undersized but incredibly talented corner from Ohio State—in the first. In the second, he went with Christian Kirk who is—at worst—a really good slot guy who adds a vertical threat to the offense. In the third, he went with Will Hernandez, the small school quality Texan to plug in at left guard.
Please, in the comments, a duel of who won and where we screwed up!

Andrew Robertson says
KT 1000000% won this round of mock drafts because Jeff had Baker Mayfield as the number 1 overall pick. I think Baker will go in the first round, but I’ll bet my right kidney that he doesn’t go first overall
Jeff Cavanaugh says
We don’t pick for the other teams it simulates them! Give me my victory!
Andrew Robertson says
Oh well then my apologies! Then I have to switch over to Jeff. I might be conditioned to like Vita Vea and Michael Gallup more because of Trust the Tape, but I like the possibility of having those two guys with a Star on their helmet
Jeff Cavanaugh says
*fist bump on Trust the Tape brainwash tactics*
Joe Jones says
I think KT won the mock, but it’s unrealistic. Kirk went R1P9 in JC’s draft, but we got him in Round 2 with KT?
A talented CB in the first and then arguably the WR2 in the draft falls to round 2 for us? I’m pumped.
Having a TE named Dallas sounds awesome, but I’d rather have an O-lineman in the 3rd like KT.
KT wins in my eyes. But him becoming an uncle has clouded his vision because there is no way we can pull that off. Congrats by the way! Great write-up.
Jeff Cavanaugh says
Little did everyone know my master plan here was to lose. To lull KT in to a false sense of security and destroy him the next 5 weeks.
Kevin Turner says
This is why our actual mock drafts, my first one coming at the end of the month will be very interesting. Then you can compare Jeff and I from a broad scale and really bring us up or tear us down.
Victor Ramos says
What draft board did you guys use in Fanspeak?
Oh and I would pick Jeff to win solely because it seems more realistic to me to actually happen haha
Jeff Cavanaugh says
Just used fanspeak because it was most recently updated and I think it’s a composite.
Jared Katz says
I probably prefer KT’s just from a value standpoint – all three guys would be excellent values at those spots. But I would be pretty hyped with either of them (assuming they use Vita properly).
Also, Bigfoot totally exists.
Jeff Cavanaugh says
ya damn right.
Sean Shapiro says
I’m just looking forward to the staff pizza party now.
