DALLAS — In a continuation of an early season theme, the Dallas Stars let the opposing goaltender post a stellar save percentage. This time it was be Adin Hill of the Arizona Coyotes, who made his NHL debut after being called up from the Tucson Roadrunners (AHL).
Hill, who is in the lineup due to the injury to Antti Raanta, has to be ecstatic with a .939 save percentage as he made several impressive saves on quality chances including an open net attempt by Jamie Benn, and a breakaway by Jason Spezza.
Dallas clearly tried to get more bodies to the net in this game, but it didn’t quite pay off as they were unable to finish their high quality scoring chances. Even so, Radek Faksa and Dan Hamhuis were able to score in the first and second periods respectively after hard-working shifts.
The Stars spent almost no time in the offensive zone in the third period in part because they took their first penalty in the first three minutes. Jamie Benn took a high sticking penalty during the penalty kill to give the Coyotes some time on the 5-on-3. Coyote winger Anthony Duclair missed a golden opportunity wide of the net while Ben Bishop was recovering.
Eager to record their first win of the season, Arizona made Dallas buckle down and survive an onslaught of offense in the third. For as many chances Dallas wasted, Arizona had to be frustrated as a 2-on-1 ended with top center Derek Stepan’s wrist shot grazing the pipe.
Ben Bishop made 27 critical saves on 28 shots as the Stars posted their tenth straight home victory against the Arizona Coyotes. Alexander Radulov scored his first goal for the Stars into the empty net with under a minute to go.
