This isn’t a hockey story.
It’s the story about a young actor from Ajax, Ontario who discovered his talent after other work brought him to to the greater DFW area.
And after a couple breaks worked out his way, a star was born on the American Airlines Center video board back in October.

An actor best known for his work in the popular “Drivin with Devin” series, Devin Shore has also starred in head-to-head showdowns at the AAC and in the one-off feature “Jersey Shore,” where he coined what should be a 2017 Oscar-winning line, “It’s a revolution in shirts. And you can quote me on that.”
So what’s the secret for the 23-year-old Canadian actor?
“Be as goofy and as outgoing and ‘Buddy the Elf’ as possible,” Shore said. “So I just did the best I could. You take the lines and you try to make them as natural as possible within your character, if you could call it that. Having fun with it, I’m not trying to be a great actor, so have fun with it.”
It’s a strategy that’s paying off for the actor, even his co-workers at his day job aren’t so sure about his acting chops.
“It’s terrible,” Brett Ritchie, who also plays on a local hockey team with Shore, said.
“You could never get me to do that, it’s embarrassing,” Ben Bishop, another of Shore’s co-workers said.
But Shore isn’t worrying about his critics, he understands it’s all about the fans that pack the arena for his latest bits and occasionally watch hockey games as well.
“It’s good to show the fans that we have some personality to us and have some fun with and keep things lighthearted,” Shore said. “We are trying to put on a good show for them.”

And what about the writing? In the future could Shore be expanding his skillset?
“No, they’ve got scripts for me,” Shore said. “I don’t write my own lines. If you don’t like the performance you can blame the script writer. They’re intended to be corny and not trying to be too serious.”
It’s a stark contrast from his day job as a professional athlete, and he tries not to watch too many of his clips while playing for the local hockey club.
“It’s fun, and it’s good for the fans,” Shore said. “But I try not to pay too much attention to it during the games.”
