FRISCO, Texas — Marc Methot will miss four to six weeks with a knee injury.
Methot hasn’t played since Nov. 6 against the Winnipeg Jets and Dallas Stars general manager Jim Nill said Methot had his knee scoped.
“The leg was coming around, started to get his rehab, and skating and it didn’t get better,” Nill said. “Decided to have an MRI and get it scoped.”
With Methot out the Stars recalled defenseman Julius Honka from the AHL to serve as a depth defender.
Stars coach Ken Hitchcock said that he likes his current group of defensemen, so Honka will likely be a healthy scratch on Tuesday against the Montreal Canadiens.
Nill also said that center Martin Hanzal is going to miss “three to seven” days with a hand injury sustained in a 6-3 win against the Edmonton Oilers on Saturday. Hanzal got tangled up with Oilers defenseman Darnell Nurse on that play.
Hanzal skated for about 15 minutes on Monday. He left practice before the Stars started doing team drills.
“I feel for Marty,” Hitchcock said. “This is the third our fourth time just as he gets up to speed and starts to really look good (and) there is an injury. You feel for a like guy that. He wants to do well and it just seems that in the game he has the most impact he gets hurt.”
Dallas is also without goalie Kari Lehtonen, who is away from the team for personal reasons. Nill didn’t have an update on Lehtonen’s status at this time and team recalled Mike McKenna from the AHL.
Hitchcock said he doesn’t expect Lehtonen to be gone for a long time, but added that Ben Bishop is ready to start all three games this week.
