New Dallas Stars defensemen Greg Pateryn held a conference call on Monday after he was traded from the Montreal Canadiens in exchange for defenseman Jordie Benn and a fourth-round pick.
On fresh start:
I think it’s huge for me. I think it’s a great opportunity and I think it’s exciting to start somewhere fresh. And I’m going to come in hard and make sure something happens.
On time in Montreal:
I felt like I was a little stuck in the mud a little bit. But that’s sometimes why changes are good, I think this will be a good one for me and it’ll be an opportunity to get my feet going again.
Injury in early December have negative impact on season?
I think it was little unlucky what happened. I was starting to play well and find my groove a little bit, and I had a bad injury. And that’s part of the game sometimes and you have to find ways to bounce back.
What do you know about Dallas?
I don’t really know much to be honest. Played them a couple times throughout the years with the Canadiens, but there’s going to be a lot of new faces. I think that’s good and something I’m really looking forward to.
Surprised?
Yea, I think around this time everyone is on their toes a little bit. Because you never know what can happen in this week. I was surprised. I was getting ready to head to a game and I got a call. It happens in the funniest ways sometimes.
Did you or agent ask for a trade?
What goes on between my agent and I and the current present GM, I don’t see any reason to get into details like that.
Unhappy in Montreal?
I think that’s overstating things. I don’t think there’s any reason to be unhappy with anything. But I think sometimes, and I said it a couple times already, you need some fresh faces and a fresh start. And that’s what’s going to be best for me.
