DALLAS — The Boston Bruins picked apart the Dallas Stars defense in a 6-3 victory on Sunday.
The Stars actually outshot the Bruins 36-28, but Dallas goalie Kari Lehtonen was let out to dry as his defense didn’t adjust to the Boston offensive attack.
Boston scored three goals on deflections and on all six goals Dallas failed to move an opposing body away from the front of the net.
After the game Bruins coach Bruce Cassidy talked about how easy it was for Boston to get to the front of the net.
“It was well documented, we want our forwards to attack more, get to the slot and make some plays off the goal. And I thought we had some good looks around the net that came from the back of the net,” he said. “(Ryan) Spooner attacked the net once. We got one in front to (Jimmy) Hayes, out in front to (Riley) Nash, we had some of those plays. We had some looks to the slot. To have good spacing, we stressed that-one guy in front, one guy in the high slot and it happened to work out for us tonight. Sometimes tips can be cyclical whether they go in or not, but you put yourself in enough good positions to do it, you can.”

Oduya addresses deadline
Johnny Oduya returned to the lineup and his injured ankle was closely watched by scouts and other general managers around the league.
Oduya is a pending unrestricted free agent and could be the next player shipped out before Wednesday’s trade deadline.
After the game he addressed those thoughts.
“Obviously management and decisions is out of my hands, that’s something I’m not going to worry about too much. I’m not going to deny I know what’s going on in this league and how things work. But when that day comes or not, I’ll be prepared for that either way,” Oduya said.
Elie gets the call
The Stars recalled Remi Elie from the Texas Stars on Saturday.
The recall gives the Stars an extra forward in case of an injury or a potential trade of a pending unrestricted free agent forward (Patrick Sharp).
Texas Stars general manager and Dallas Stars assistant GM Scott White told me that Elie has been the most consistent forward over the past six weeks in the AHL. He also noted that Elie has been good defensively and has been playing on the penalty kill.
I asked Lindy Ruff what he expects from Elie.
“Just a real hard guy to play against, even from the exhibition games I’ve played him,” Ruff said. “Really skates well, really hard on the puck, really heavy physical type guy that you’d like to see him finish a bit more. But at the same time he’s a guy that can really back the opposition off with his speed.”
