Patrick Laine played just his 51st NHL game on Tuesday, and he’s already established himself as a Dallas Stars killer.
On Tuesday he had his second hat trick of the season against Dallas in a 5-2 Winnipeg Jets victory, a win that dropped the Stars even further out of the Western Conference Wildcard race.
Laine has eight goals and 12 points against Dallas this season, and helped Winnipeg win the season series against the Stars.
Niemi plays well
While he lost Antti Niemi actually played pretty well on Tuesday and stopped 16 of 19 shots.
“I thought pretty good,” Niemi said. “I didn’t get too many shots, but overall I felt comfortable and felt like I saw the puck well.”

Benn is the second player from the 2007 NHL Draft Class to reach 500 points. Patrick Kane, who was the first-overall pick was the first.
Strader returns
This may be the best news of the season.
During Tuesday’s the it was announced that broadcaster Dave Strader will return to the booth later this week when the Stars host the Tampa Bay Lightning on Saturday.
Here was the release from the Stars:
Stars play-by-play announcer Dave Strader is set to return to the broadcast booth during the Stars upcoming homestand as he continues his fight against cholangiocarcinoma, a fairly rare and aggressive form of cancer. His treatment schedule afforded him the opportunity to travel to Dallas and return to the booth for the five-game homestand. Daryl “Razor” Reaugh will accompany him as the color analyst, while Craig Ludwig will join Josh Bogorad and Brent Severyn on the pregame show, intermissions and postgame show during that time.
Following the homestand, he will return to upstate New York to continue his treatment. Below are a list of games that Strader and Razor will work:
Dallas vs. Tampa Bay | Saturday, Feb. 18
Dallas vs. Arizona | Friday, Feb. 24
Dallas vs. Boston | Sunday, Feb. 26 (Radio only)
Dallas vs. Pittsburgh | Tuesday, Feb. 28
Dallas vs. New York Islanders | Thursday, March 2
Back in October I wrote a story about Strader’s impact on the hockey community and the reaction from across the league. You can read that by clicking here.
