Dallas Stars defender Patrik Nemeth was claimed by the Colorado Avalanche on waivers Tuesday.
Nemeth was a second-round pick in 2010. He came over to North American before the 2012-13 season and struggled with injuries in the early part of his career.
During the 2013-14 season he split time between the NHL and AHL, while he scored the game-winning overtime goal that helped the Texas Stars win the Calder Cup.
The following season he had a tendon in his arm sliced by RJ Umberger’s skate, causing him to miss most of the 2014-15 season. That injury coincided with the rise of John Klingberg, and Nemeth was buried in the glut of defenders the Stars have carried the past two seasons.
Over the past two seasons Nemeth played 38 and 40 NHL games, spending most of his time in the press box as a healthy scratch.
He finishes his Stars career with 108 games, 14 assists, 40 penalty minutes. Nemeth also played five games in the 2014 playoff series against the Anaheim Ducks.
Curtis McKenzie cleared waivers and has been sent to the Texas Stars.
