The Dallas Stars lost 5-1 to the Colorado Avalanche on Thursday night and you shouldn’t overreact to the loss.
For one, you should never overreact to any preseason results, in the grand scheme of these things these games don’t count. You also have to look at the Stars lineup, which heavily relied on likely AHL players and fringe NHLers trying to prove they should still make the NHL roster — this group wasn’t nearly as good as Tuesday’s veteran lineup.
It’s also difficult to judge a game where the lone medium for viewing is an opposing radio feed and notes on Twitter from those in attendance.
Moral of the story? It’s just one preseason game, no biggie in the win-loss column.
It was, however, an opportunity for some younger players to grab an opportunity, and they dropped the ball according to Ken Hitchcock.
Dallas will split camp today into two groups. There will be a group of 30 players that Hitchcock will likely choose his NHL roster from, while the second group will likely be headed to the AHL sooner than later.
It’s going to create an interesting day at camp, because it will give us some insight into the pecking order of the organizational depth.
Hintz scores
Here is the Stars lone goal from last night, it was scored by Roope Hintz.
Housekeeping notes
– I recorded a podcast with Stars goalie Mike McKenna on Thursday afternoon, which you can listen to by clicking here. The interview lasted close to 45 minutes, but could have kept going for hours if we had the time to dive deeper into a number of subjects. It was a fun conversation to have, hopefully as the season goes along I’ll setting up more podcast interviews like this with other players.
– The mailbag comes out today, likely around 9:30 or 10 a.m. I typically write up 80 percent of it on Thursday evening and then finish it up and proof read on Friday mornings.
