The Dallas Stars had another self-described embarrassing showing on the road last night in a 5-1 loss to the Carolina Hurricanes.
By my unofficial count, that word has been used by Stars captain Jamie Benn after at least three of the six road losses this season.
That’s not an official stat, but let’s look at a couple real statistics: how bad have the Stars been away from the American Airlines Center?
— At 3-6-0 Dallas is tied for the fifth-worst record in the NHL. Of the four teams below them in road wins, three of them have all played less games than the Stars. Looking at it this way, only the Arizona Coyotes are truly a worse road team than the Stars.
— After finishing even or better in shot in their first four road games, the Stars have been out-shot in five straight road games — and that includes a pair of rare road wins.
— The penalty kill, which is typically good at home, has allowed four goals on the past 10 road opportunities. That includes a power play goal last night by a Carolina power play that had been lackluster all season.
The good news?
It’s still early in the season. But eventually that won’t be a usable excuse.
Today’s Schedule
The Stars play the Florida Panthers on the second end of a back-to-back.
