Tyler Seguin had a rare fight and Gordie Howe Hat Trick in the Dallas Stars 3-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche.
According to HockeyFights.com, it was the firs time Seguin has ever fought. There were times he was essentially jumped in scrum in the OHL, but this was the first time Seguin ever dropped the gloves in a game.
This got me thinking, did Mike Modano ever have a fight?
Much has been made this season about Seguin copying the Modano path under Ken Hitchcock and becoming a complete player.
Turns out Modano did have one career fight as well, back when the Stars were still in Minnesota. It didn’t end well against Rod Brind’Amour back on Oct. 20, 1990.
Seguin’s Gordie Howe Hat Trick was actually the first one one in the NHL this season, and first by a Dallas Star since Cody Eakin had one last season against the New York Rangers.
Housekeeping Notes
— Speaking of Seguin, I’ll have a subscriber story coming later today about his growth into a leadership role this season.
