Dallas Stars goalie prospect Philippe Desrosiers picked up his second win of the season for the ECHL-affiliated Idaho Steelheads on Wednesday.
After stopping 33 shots in a 3-1 victory Desrosiers now has a 2-0 record, 1.51 goals against average, and .949 save percentage in two starts.
Getting sent to the ECHL and losing the out on the AHL back-up job may have been the best thing for the goalie prospect. He’s gaining confidence, and with the exception of back-to-backs, he’s the established go-to starter for the Steelheads.
Meanwhile Landon Bow has yet to play an AHL game this season with Mike McKenna getting all four starts for the Texas Stars. Bow will likely get his first start of the season this weekend when Texas plays a three-in-in-three with the San Antonio Rampage.
Ideally this is Desrosiers final season in the ECHL, and based on conversations with those in both Idaho and Cedar Park the 22-year-old is making the most of the situation right now. He understood the goalie situation in Texas, didn’t pout about being the odd man out, and has found the positives playing for Idaho.
And playing in the ECHL at 22 isn’t the end of a career. For example, Los Angeles Kings goalie Jonathan Quick was a 22-year-old in the ECHL.
I’m not saying Desrosiers will become Quick, but there still is time for him to pan out as a prospect and he’s doing all the right things early this season.
