I had a phone conversation with Dallas Stars prospect and Minnesota-Duluth forward Riley Tufte on Monday about his nice start to the NCAA season.
Tufte has seven points in eight games, including goals in back-to-back games this weekend.
“It’s been really good, as far as like as the injuries go last year and not having to worry about those are huge,” Tufte said. “And getting to be with the team right away and starting fresh, that was huge for me. Just looking to keep that going.”
There will be a full story up later today on Tufte and how he’s approaching this season, his thoughts on World Junior, his connection to Tyler Pitlick, and a more.
Justice served?
The AHL issued a five-game suspension for San Diego Gulls forward Stu Bickel on Monday afternoon. Bickel already served one game of his suspension on Saturday vs the San Antonio Rampage, and will essentially miss the next two weeks.
Personally, I think it should have been a longer suspension after this attack on Texas Stars forward Justin Dowling.
This felt like a 10-game suspension to me. Dowling isn’t a willing combatant, and Bickel continuously takes shots at his head. It’s also well-known why Bickel is still playing professional hockey and it doesn’t have anything to do with his skill.
One thing to remember: suspensions in the AHL are always a tricky situation. While somethings are automatically reviews, most suspendible events are on the onus of the afflicted team to send video into the league offices.
