Dallas Stars defensive prospect Joseph Cecconi helped the United States claim the gold medal with a 5-4 victory against Canada in the World Junior Championship game.
The United States scored the only goal in the shootout after a wildly entertaining 80-minutes of hockey. Both teams had chances in a 20-minute overtime, but both goalies helped force a shootout.
Cecconi had 33 shifts for 25 minutes, 58 seconds of ice time in the championship game. Cecconi had a quiet but effective tournament and was a reliable defensive defenseman throughout the tournament.
He finished the tournament with two assists and was plus-1 in seven games.
