TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. — The Dallas Stars prospects blew a three-goal lead in the third period and fell in overtime to the St. Louis Blues 7-6 on Saturday evening.
Dallas had taken a 6-3 lead at 4:21 of the period when Sheldon Dries scored on cross-crease pass from Tomas Soustal.
Then the Blues highly touted prospects took over.
Klim Kostin, the 31st overall pick in the 2017 NHL Draft, scored on the power play with an assist from 2016 first-round pick Tage Thompson. Two minutes later Thompson had another power play assist, setting up Jake Walman for a point blast.
Thompson then tied the game at 17:31 of the third on an assist from Kostin.
The teams were relatively even in overtime, but the Blues finished off the comeback when Thomas Vannelli scored with 38 seconds remaining.
Much earlier Adam Musil gave St. Louis a 1-0 lead at 3:57 of the first period when he scored on a rebound.
Samuel Laberge tied the game on a wrist shot at 8:58 from between the circles. Shaw Boomhower then gave Dallas a 2-1 lead on a backhand at 13:54, beating Evan Fitpatrick over the blocker.
Brett Davis gave the Stars a 3-1 lead at 15:16 when he converted on a rebound after a point shot by Ondrej Vala.
Alexey Toropchenko scored on the with 3:22 remaining in the first to cut the lead to 3-2 before the intermission.
A four-minute power play in the second period led to three total goals.
St. Louis scored shorthanded to tie the game at 3-3, while Vala and Soustal each scored on the power play give to Dallas a 5-3 advantage.
Landon Bow made 20 saves on 27 shots in the loss.
