DALLAS — Tyler Seguin didn’t even know he had a Gordie Howe hat trick until he was introduced as the first star of the Dallas Stars 3-1 win against the Colorado Avalanche.
“That’s a first. Might hashtag it tonight. Probably never happen again,” Seguin said.
The fight certainly was unexpected. It was even more of a surprise when he fought former Stars defenseman Patrik Nemeth, who also had zero career fights.

When asked to rate his level of surprise on a scale from one to ten, Devin Shore said it was an eight.
Stars captain Jamie Benn said that combined with Seguin’s work on the penalty kill embodied the leadership role the center has grown into.
“He’s taken a bigger role on this team. He’s playing in different situation, he’s wearing a letter, he’s being a leader now,” Benn said. “It’s fun to see, he’s going to get better as the year goes on. I think for the most part it’s been fun PKing with him so far, just trying to get better.”
Seguin is also still a world class offensive player and he showed that with his goal and assist.
The goal was particularly important and stood up as the game-winner when he beat the buzzer with one second remaining in the second period.
